I think the main problem people are having with this flashback is that Isshin's past is proving to be underwhelming. People had high hopes for Isshin's prior position, never did one think that Isshin served as a Captain alongside Byakuya and Tosen, much less Matsumoto.

Certainly not Kubo's best flashback so far.

^I will actually have to agree with that. I certainly thought Isshin was from the Royal Realm, and I was really curious to see how it would somehow tie in with Urahara having seen the Soul King (I originally thought Isshin just took Urahara up with him), and perhaps how Aizen somehow took a glimpse of it. In addition, I thought since alot of the Gotei have seen Ichigo, that they would've kinda gotten a hint by now that Ichigo is Isshin's son or relative.

But, its not necessarily a plot hole. Perhaps, Isshin never used GT in front of any of the gotei. He doesn't look anything like Ichigo either. Plus, his zanpakuto is hinted to be fire, quite different from Ichigo. Matsumoto didn't see who Ichigo had on his shoulder in the deceide arc, and maybe Isshin wasn't a captain for that long to leave a lasting impression on everybody.

I'm willing to bet there's a certain relationship between the Noble Families and the Zero Division/Soul King. I personally believe that each Noble Family is the result of a member of the family joining the Zero Division, giving them noble status.

As for Urahara, I'm under the impression that there's a lot more to him in relation to the Soul king that we know of. He's the only person with a regal-style Zanpakuto (its appearance and also "hime" in its name), so there has to be something there.

Is the Royal Family canon? I know it was featured in one of the movies or something, but has there actually ever been any mention of it in canon? If so, I'm betting Urahara was a member who "descended" to Seireitei for some reason (curiosity?)

Royal family? Idk but there are noble families. The ones we know of are the 2 biggest ones which are the Kuchiki and Shihouin, they are part of the 5 great noble families. There are a lot more but arent as strong as the 2 forementioned.

The Kyoraku family is a high ranking noble family of old lineage (strong but not like the great 5, also has one older unnamed brother)
Ukitake family which is a lesser noble family (looks after 7 brothers and sisters I think).
Fong family (Soi-fons family they live to serve under the Shihouin)
Marechiyo family (Omaeda's flashy rich family)
Kira family which is lesser noble family (both parents died).

Those are the ones off the top of my head there may be a few more.

Why are you even dubbing something like Rangiku and Isshin's relationship a plot hole when we have not had an entire elaboration on Isshin's status as alive/dead/exiled/missing in action, to the Soul Society?

Can you actually wait until after we have an extension of Rangiku's knowledge on Isshin before words such as "plot hole" are thrown around. Because seriously, we haven't even moved passed Everything but the Rain to even determine whether Rangiku even knew if Isshin was in FKT/Soul Society - despite the fact that her focus was on Gin, the man dying in her arms.

Oh come one, calm down; that's why I said I didn't "think". Don't take yourself too seriously.

Although I think Kubo didn't plan all of this beforehand, I think the solution for this plot hole is extremely simple. What if Rangiku knew all this time what happened to Isshin? Given their relationship and Rangiku's personality, I don't find it far fetched Isshin told her he was defecting because he found love or something like that; maybe she even helped him. Heck, she might even have realized who Ichigo was.

I apologise if I misunderstood, but no you did not say that.

Meanwhile, I was taking you seriously - mainly because it seemed to be okay to dub this a plot hole, despite the fact that there has been no elaboration as of yet.

But Isshin has returned to the 10th division barracks, so maybe he will console in Rangiku or Toshiro like we suggested.

I'm not underwhelmed in the least. I'm one of the ones who called it that he was the ex-10th Division captain (so there :p).

I'm actually a little overwhelmed that Kubo is going all lovely-lovely about how Isshin and Masaki met. I pegged him for a romantic, but this goes beyond what I was expecting him to show us for backstory. Married life must be good for him. It's ... uhh, giving me high hopes for the future of what else he might show us. :XD

Well yeah this may be a little problem. Some people expected him to be RG member, so the Original G13 member. Now it seems that he may be even younger than Kaien.... like Byakuya age. I think that its because he looks like Kyourak's generation, but now we know that he simply was turned into a human so he aged faster.
It surelly can be a problem for some poeple since, lets be hones, as for the father of the MC Isshin(as of now) unimportant. He just some normal super young captain. Its like making Naruto's father a normal random ninja, or Luffy's father some farmer who have no conections to pirates.

Kyoraku has an unnamed brother eh...
Inb4 its Aizen and Kyoraku's treachery is revealed (Kyoraku vs Ukitake)
Aizen and Kyoraku have similar looks, long brown hair, and that hair strand in the front :O
