Reputation Rules [updated]

Bleach Asylum uses a reputation system as a way for members to express approval or appreciation to others. With that in mind, we ask you to follow a few important guidelines when using the reputation (rep) system.

Xenforo is using the word "Reaction" instead of "Reputation". "Like" is giving one point to the reaction score, no matter what rank and how many points you already have.

How do I give reputation?

Part of the new reputation system is in development and will involve Trophies. But you can express your appreciation now by pressing the "like" button. You can find it at the bottom right of each post.

When should I give reputation?

* The poster wrote an interesting, thought provoking contribution to a discussion
* The poster answered your question or a question you also wondered about
* The poster shared information about Bleach or manga/anime in general
* The poster shared fanart or a link to fanfiction.
* The poster left a funny, witty contribution you found amusing

These are just some examples.

What about negative reputation?

The negative reputation button has been disabled and so far there are no plans to change that. There are more productive ways to express negative views.

First of all, the basic rule is think before you act. Do not write something in the heat of the moment but step back and consider why you feel so strongly that you would have pressed the negative reputation button if you could.

Always post with courtesy and respect. There is no excuse for getting personal, bashing of any kind, abuse or bad language.

If you disagree with a post, what you should do is writing your view in a constructive manner, putting it up for discussion. You also have the option to walk away, to agree to disagree.

If the poster did something that is against the rules, contact a moderator or admin who will deal with it.

General guidelines

• No “rep game.” In other words, please give positive rep only when it is truly deserved. Don't give rep just as part of a "race to the top."
• Although it is nice to give “thank-you” rep when you receive positive rep, it is not required

I think it is an improvement that pressing "like" gives the receiver one point, no matter who gives it. It is more democratic. In the past I was able to give more than 100 points as reputation at once but never felt that my given rep was worth more than that of a person who just started in BA and could only give a few points. Also in elections, everybody's vote is equal.

In the past there were limits of how often you could rep somebody. I am not sure but from what I experienced so far, there doesn't seem to be a limit of how often you can give "like" to a person. One point a post can hardly result in a "race to the top" but nevertheless, I hope nobody is going to try to make a rep game out of this. If someone is caught the consequences will be a warning and/or a limited ban.

You can also show your appreciation for a post or for a rep by leaving a message for the person. I often wanted to rep somebody but the system didn't let me. What I did instead was giving "invisible reputation" (as I called it) by leaving a message. I was told by some people that they even preferred this to rep points because it takes more effort and thought. The "like" system doesn't seem to have such limitations but still... I already left short messages for some people.

I am curious what this "trophy" system will be about. It will take time to develop it - there is still a lot to do.
