Hello and welcome to the Debates Forum! This place is special within Bleach Asylum because this is where posters can share their ideas and thoughts in a logical and polite manner.

Like the colours of the rainbow, each of us are different, and sometimes beliefs and opinions clash. However by following these guidelines (these are not official rules), we hope to keep everything peaceful while still being able to discuss our ideas. Lets get started, shall we?

Starting a Thread

Anyone can start a thread here! But, ask yourself these questions before you submit it. Does it clearly state what the issue is? Does it give at least the basic information on what the issue is about? Do you present the two (or more) possible sides to the issue at hand?

The more information you provide, the more likely someone will respond. No one wants to hunt up data, so if you provide it for them, they’ll probably state their opinion on it and the thread can blossom.

Replying to a Thread

Bleachasylum is for fun, first and foremost. Though the Debate Section is the more ‘serious’ forum, we still want to keep the ‘fun’ factor of the rest of the forum. You never have to write an essay in order to make a good post here! But here’s a few suggestions on posting.
  • State your stance on the issue, but be specific. Just saying it’s pro-this or anti-that doesn’t really say much. What does having that stance entail? Please, please, please also state why you take that stance.
  • Say as little or as much as you want, but remember, no one’s view point is inherently less valid than yours. Respect is the name of the game here. Any inflammatory remarks, especially those mentioned in the Forum Rules & Regulations, will NOT be tolerated.
  • Since this is the Internet, people can’t hear your tone of voice so it’s very easy to misinterpret something you ‘say’ in a post. Re-read your post and try to imagine a complete stranger reading it. Could they take offense to it or skew the meaning? If you think yes, edit it! Not sure? Ask a friend or PM a mod. We’re all happy to help you if you need it. :D
  • This is the debate forum so people will … debate! Don’t feel offended if someone has the opposite view as you. Try to keep a cool head and post in a rational, civil manner. Flames will not be tolerated.
  • Even in real life, people rarely change their opinions on something. Don’t expect to change someone’s view point just because you rebutted their post. You might not convince them of your stance, but at least you opened their eyes to different world views.
  • Try to break up your post into readable paragraphs. No one likes to read a wall of text. :D
  • It's hard to make a convincing argument if you don't cite your sources. So if you make a statement, especially if it's controversial, be prepared to back it up if asked. (Unless you're saying something like "The sky is blue," you need to say more than, "It's common sense.")

If you have any questions or suggestions about this list, please contact any moderator or administrator.

Have fun! ♥

P.S. If no one has posted in a debate thread for 6 months to 1 year, then that thread will be closed. If a member wishes to discuss the topic after it has been closed, please make a new thread for it.
